Wang Xuan and Xiao Qi form an alliance for gaining power. They choose matrimony prior to developing romantic feelings for each other and unite in defense of their homeland. Wang Xuan is a woman whose capabilities equal any man, while Xiao Qi has risen from a meager background. The royal family is heavily corrupt. The nobles lead a luxurious lifestyle without any concern for the common people. When a prophecy foretells that acquiring Princess Wang Xuan equates to gaining the world, she and her youthful sweetheart, the third prince, are used as scapegoats. As court politics escalate, Wang Xuan's father arranges her marriage to Xiao Qi, a man of lowly origin. On their marital night, Xiao Qi is compelled to flee the capital, leaving Wang Xuan humiliated and disheartened. As the Helan Prince abducts Wang Xuan to retaliate against Xiao Qi, the adversity they encounter turns out to be a hidden boon. Moved by Xiao Qi's desire to create a peaceful and thriving nation, Wang Xuan finds herself falling in love with him.
